New: HelloTime now integrates with HelloBooks — sync clients, hours, invoices and payroll.

HelloTime vs Clockify: an honest comparison

Last updated:

TL;DR

  • HelloTime is built for AU teams who pay employees through HelloBooks Payroll — tracked time, leave and allowances flow natively into STP Phase 2 lodgement; Clockify has no payroll engine and no STP capability.
  • Clockify is the most generous free time tracker on the market and a strong choice for global, non-payroll-driven use cases (agencies billing in USD, freelancers, lightweight team timers).
  • Pick HelloTime if your time data has to land in AU-compliant payroll; pick Clockify if you only need a billable-hours timer for projects and clients.

When to choose HelloTime

  • You pay AU employees and need STP Phase 2 lodgement, leave accruals and award-aware payroll — Clockify cannot do any of this.
  • You already use HelloBooks (or plan to) and want one stack for time + accounting + payroll.
  • You want a vendor that takes responsibility for AU compliance, not just hour tallies.

When to choose Clockify

  • You need an unlimited-user free time tracker — Clockify's free plan is genuinely the most generous in the market.
  • Your business is project / client billing in USD or EUR; AU payroll is not in scope.
  • You want the simplest possible team timer with minimal admin overhead.

HelloTime vs Clockify: FAQ

Does HelloTime sync with HelloBooks payroll?

Yes — natively. Approved timesheets, leave balances and allowances flow into HelloBooks Payroll, which lodges STP Phase 2 with the ATO. Clockify has no equivalent.

Can Clockify lodge STP Phase 2?

No. Clockify is a time tracker, not a payroll product. To lodge STP you would still need a separate AU-certified payroll system (Xero Payroll, MYOB, Employment Hero Payroll, HelloBooks Payroll), and you would have to bridge time-out from Clockify into it manually or by API.

Can HelloTime interpret Australian Modern Awards?

Partially — common loadings, penalty rates and ordinary-hours splits are handled via HelloBooks Payroll. Clockify does not interpret awards at all.

Is HelloTime cheaper than Clockify?

For solo or very small teams that only need a free timer, Clockify wins on raw price — its free tier is unlimited. Once you need payroll, leave and STP, HelloTime is dramatically cheaper than the Clockify + separate-payroll bundle. HelloTime starts at AU$3.50 / user / mo (annual).

Can I migrate from Clockify to HelloTime?

Yes. We import users, projects, tags, and historical time entries via CSV from a standard Clockify export.

Does Clockify support geofencing and photo clock-in?

Geofencing and kiosk modes exist on Clockify's paid tiers, but biometric / facial recognition is not part of the product.

Which is better for a 5-person Australian agency?

If you bill clients hourly and pay the team via Xero Payroll, Clockify is cheap and fine. If you want one stack — time, books, payroll, STP — HelloTime is the better fit on day one.
