Construction & field workforce management
GPS clock-in, geofencing, mileage and job costing for construction and field service teams — how to manage a field workforce well.
What makes field teams different
Field crews start the day at a site, not a desk. Many share devices, lose signal, and move between locations during a shift. Attendance, travel and job costs all have to be captured on the move — and a system that only works with a laptop and a good connection will simply not be used.
Geofenced clock-in
Define geofences as coordinates with a radius around each site — around 100 metres is a common starting point — rather than landmarks like "the blue trailer". Workers can then clock in only when they are actually on site. See GPS geofencing.
Where signal is patchy, clock-ins should queue offline and sync later. Where workers do not carry phones, a shared tablet in kiosk mode at the site gate does the same job.
Travel and mileage
Keep vehicle time separate from paid time for labour-law compliance. Capture trips and fuel receipts on the phone with mileage tracking, and route other out-of-pocket costs through expense claims.
Job costing
Map tracked time to phase or job codes so labour cost lands on the right job. Approved hours can then flow to payroll and to your books — HelloTime connects natively to HelloBooks.
Verifying who clocked in
Buddy-punching is a real cost on large crews. Face-recognition clock-in is available in HelloTime as an early-access pilot, onboarding sites by request; our biometric vs fingerprint attendance guide compares it with fingerprint devices.
